Evan Mazunik brings extensive experience as a contemporary music creator, specializing in composition, piano lessons and performance, and choir direction with expertise across jazz, sacred, and experimental genres.
After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in piano performance and Master’s in jazz studies from the University of Iowa, Evan went on to perform with renowned artists like Carla Bley and Anthony Braxton at creative music venues in NYC such as Roulette and The Stone.
Evan went on to teach at prestigious institutions like Acadia University and lead workshops at the University of Indiana, University of North Texas, and the Royal Academy of Music in London. He currently serves as Choir Director at Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church in Denver, where he creates contemporary music as a composer and keyboardist.
Evan believes in blending traditional and contemporary approaches to music. Ever since starting piano at 4-years-old, he has crafted a unique style that merges crisp melodies with impressionistic embellishments. His 2016 album Restoration demonstrates this philosophy, combining sacred music with progressive jazz through innovative piano trio arrangements of classic hymns.
When not directing or teaching music lessons in Denver, Evan stays busy composing works for various ensembles and media, including jazz band, choir, theater, dance, and film, as well as performing throughout the Denver area.
