Tim is a versatile guitarist, composer, and educator who enjoys guiding students of
all ages and abilities toward a fun and rewarding musical experience! He has been a private music instructor for 14 yrs (since 2003) and has taught at The Music and Arts Center, University of Colorado at Boulder (where he was awarded a teaching assistantship, taught small and large ensemble performance, and music theory), and as a clinician at the Colorado Conservatory of Jazz Arts.
“As a teacher, the first skills I utilize are good communication and perception of the student’s experience level and learning strengths. It is important to me to clearly present material so that the student effectively understands and absorbs the information. As a music educator, my purpose is to facilitate a joyful and positive experience with an emphasis on creativity and enjoyment, supported by an adaptive teaching style, thereby leading my students toward their true potential.”
During his early years, he received classical training on the piano, and was inspired to pick up the guitar at the age of 12 by the music of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix. He continued his musical studies by immersing himself in the Philadelphia jazz scene, where he was an accomplished leader and sideman for 10 years. He received his M.A. in Jazz Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado, Boulder (Pedagogy is the discipline that deals with the theory and practice of education; it thus concerns the study of how best to teach).
Tim has performed at Carnegie Hall, toured the east coast and Rocky Mountain
region with original rock, funk, jazz, and classical projects, as well as traveled the entire United States as a member of the Broadway National Tour of The Color Purple. He has performed with such notable artists as Dave Liebman, Dave Douglas,
Ralph Alessi, Art Lande, Terell Stafford, Jaleel Shaw, and Jeff Lee Johnson, amongst many others.
